Barcelona star Samuel Umtiti has insisted he hopes to renew his contract, disappointing Manchester United fans who were interested in him though he didn’t completely slam the door shut.
The Frenchman is reported to be a target of Jose Mourinho‘s who is keen on revamping his defence in the summer transfer window.
United are said to be looking for a top quality centre-back with Umtiti fitting the mould and his release clause makes things interesting.
The defender flirted with a possible move to Old Trafford though it appeared to be only for the sake of getting a pay raise with the Spanish giants.
No updates since though has left the door open for the Red Devils to make a move though the player himself has admitted to wanting a renewal.
According to 101 Great Goals, Samuel said to Mundo Deportivo: “For my part, I want to renew. It’s important to resolve this issue before the World Cup although if this is not possible, it would not bother me.
“At the moment, there is no more news or further developments.”
Perhaps Samuel Umtiti’s comments will allow Mourinho to press on even more with bringing in Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgian international is said to be keen on the move himself as the London club fail to truly value his qualities.
Alderweireld would slot in seamlessly into Manchester United’s back four, perhaps partnering Ivorian international Eric Bailly if he can stay fit next season.
