William Gallas has claimed he has no sympathy for Anthony Martial‘s exclusion from the France World Cup squad.
The Manchester United star is on the standby list in case anything happens to the nation’s other options but it’s unlikely he will make the trip to Russia.
The youngster has 11 goals and nine assists to his name this season but hasn’t done enough to impress for many, particularly Jose Mourinho.
Martial’s inconsistencies this season has seen him often play a role from the bench rather from the start of matches but he’s still managed to rake in over 40 appearances.
Gallas insists he has no sympathy for his fellow countryman though he hopes there will be more to come from the former AS Monaco man.
According to Goal, William said: “Martial? I don’t feel sorry for him because he had the opportunity. He was in the squad many times before.
“I think he missed his chance go to the World Cup. He didn’t perform at his best for the whole season. To go to the World Cup, you have to perform all season.
“You can’t be up and down, that’s what has made the difference. He is still young and maybe he will learn. He has great quality and it is a shame for him.”
Talk of a disgruntled Anthony is no surprise given how he might miss the World Cup and how he’s fallen down the pecking order to Alexis Sanchez.
Though many United fans will admit that the Chilean is more talented, they struggle to understand why the Frenchman wasn’t given more opportunities to impress given how the former was also inconsistent.
Sanchez hasn’t found his best form for the Red Devils yet and there’s hopes that both players will improve considerably next season.
