Paul Merson believes Manchester United’s David de Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world, joining the consensus of many fans already.
The Spaniard was the club’s player of the year once more and won a host of individual awards such as the Golden Glove award for the Premier League.
There’s no doubt that without De Gea United would’ve been in a worse position this season and some supporters hope he’s better protected next year.
Merson believes there’s no debate, as some people like to claim Thibaut Courtois is the best in the world instead.
David has once again been linked with a move to Real Madrid but the Red Devils appear confident in holding onto him.
According to the Sport Review, Paul said to Sky Sports: “He is the best goalkeeper in the world. He saves points.
“A lot of goalkeepers make good saves but you’d feel you’d save that. Some of his saves you do think how did he save that.”
Jose Mourinho’s men have one of the best records in Europe in terms of defending but of course a lot of that has to do with David de Gea.
Manchester United’s defenders have looked shaky despite often being protected by a defensive midfielder and having the former Atletico Madrid star behind them.
It’s for this reason that Mourinho is said to be eyeing up several transfers as he hopes to revamp his defence by investing in a centre-back and two full-backs.
