Manchester United star David de Gea has backed his own nation at the upcoming summer’s tournament, the World Cup in Russia.

The goalkeeper is set to feature wit his nation having impressed once again at Old Trafford, winning the player of the year award as well as the Premier League’s Golden Glove.

United would have been in a much worse position than second place had it not been for De Gea’s crucial saves, though fans have still called for the defence to be sorted out in the transfer window.

The Spaniard will certainly be his nations first choice pick with many supporters believing he’s the world’s best in his position.

The European nation has won the World Cup before as well as the Euro’s in back to back succession but there aren’t too many expecting them to go all the way once again this summer.

According to Sky Sports, David said to MUTV: “We have come off the back of a really excellent qualification campaign, and now it’s time for the best bit to get started.

“So now for the good bit, the World Cup tournament itself, and let’s enjoy it and take things game by game and try and perform well and hopefully have a real go at it and maybe even win the World Cup.

“It’s something really special, being able to pull on the Spanish national team shirt in a World Cup.

“I’m just so keen for it all to get underway, both the games themselves and all the emotion, and let’s hope we can make the entire country really happy.”

With David de Gea in net though anything can happen and the Spaniard’s can certainly rely on him to deliver in high pressure situations.

His performances have once more sparked rumours of a move to Real Madrid who are said to be interested in him again.

De Gea though is expected to remain at Old Trafford with him not really hinting at a desire to leave.
