Timothy Fosu-Mensah: It was great playing for Crystal Palace

Manchester United star Timothy Fosu-Mensah has admitted that playing for Crystal Palace was great, praising the club’s passionate fans.

The youngster was sent out on loan to the Premier League side by Jose Mourinho and was instantly rated highly by the supporters.

Some United fans were disappointed that Fosu-Mensah left in the first place, believing he was good enough for the first team but the Portuguese manager felt otherwise.

Mourinho couldn’t fit the versatile Dutchman into his plans but there’s hopes things could be different next season.

Initially the defender was being lined up to play as Antonio Valencia‘s heir but the Red Devils interest in Diogo Dalot seems to have foiled those plans.

According to Read Crystal Palace, Timothy said: “Playing in front of the home fans at Selhurst was very special. When we played against Chelsea and Manchester City at home, they were crazy and those are some very special memories for me.

“They are great fans because we struggled at the start, but they stood by us and that shows a lot about the club and the fans. I don’t think any other fans would do that for their team.

“I think it was a good season and I enjoyed it a lot. As a young player you have to learn and you’re going to make mistakes, but Palace gave me an opportunity. It’s been great to play for a beautiful club like Palace in the Premier League – it was just amazing.”

The good news for Timothy Fosu-Mensah is that his versatile could help him get serious minutes next season for Manchester United.

Michael Carrick‘s retirement has seen Jose chasing a central midfielder all summer long and Marouane Fellaini‘s impending contract expiration has added another unnecessary headache.

However, Fosu-Mensah may be able to capitalise should the Belgian leave with there being hopes the former Real Madrid manager would rate him this time around.

Unfortunately it appears that it may not be the case given how United have been reported to be aiming to line-up a transfer for other midfielders to replace Fellaini.
