Brazilian legend Rivaldo has heaped praise on fellow countryman Fred after he completed a £52m switch from Shakhtar Donetsk to Manchester United on Tuesday.
Fred put pen to paper on a five-year-deal at Man United and is Jose Mourinho’s first capture of what is expected to be a busy summer at the club.
Barcelona and Brazil great Rivaldo has hyped Fred’s Old Trafford arrival and predicts a very bright future for the 25-year-old in England.
“Fred is a wonderful player. Like any other player when you move to a new country, he will need a little bit of time to adapt.
“But when you’re a good player and a brilliant midfielder like he is, he’s going to do well and he’s going to be good for United.”
Rivaldo would have been one of the stars Fred idolised as he grew up in South America whilst the former attacking midfielder netted 35 goals in 74 caps.
United’s new signing will be looking to carve his own name into the history books by helping Brazil to a sixth 2018 World Cup triumph in Russia, with the highly-anticipated tournament kicking off next week.
The World Cup provides a chance for supporters to catch a glimpse of the new midfielder before he actually puts on the famous red shirt at the start of the 2018-19 campaign – it’d be rude not to get excited!
