Robert Piers: Marouane Fellaini to Arsenal is good news

by Marwan Harraz

Arsenal legend Robert Piers has surprisingly backed his club’s attempts to sign Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

The Belgian’s contract runs out in less than a month with there not appearing to be any real sign of a renewal getting signed.

The Gunner’s new boss Unai Emery was said to be interested in Fellaini when he was the manager of PSG and still has the same intentions.

It appears he is serious about signing the former Everton man for free with United fans laughing at the development.

Piers though doesn’t feel the same way as the London club’s supporters do and believes Marouane would be a good addition to their squad.

According to the Daily Mail, Robert said to Sky Sports: “Everybody knows Marouane Fellaini in the Premier League. Of course last season it was very, very difficult, the relation with Jose Mourinho.

“But I think he’s a good player, if he wants to join Arsenal I think it would be good news. He needs a new start and I think, with his quality, I think he can help Unai Emery and he can help the Arsenal players in the squad.”

Jose Mourinho has publicly spoken of his admiration for Marouane Fellaini and the desire to tie the midfielder down to a new contract.

It seems though that his demands are too high for Manchester United who are unwilling to negotiate a new deal for him.

Mourinho’s love for Fellaini is built on the premise that he’s willing to do whatever his manager asks and has proven himself to be a useful back-up option from the bench.

The Portuguese manager’s love for alternatives to his match-plan is no hidden secret and he’ll surely be disappointed should the tenacious midfielder leave for free.
