The midfielder has been heavily criticised this season for various reasons such as his lack of defensive awareness or his consistency problems.
Pogba started the season brightly but saw an injury disrupt his campaign and he struggled to truly recover since, putting in top quality performances sandwiched between terrible games.
Mourinho even dropped the Frenchman because of these problems but Sagna believes the manager also asks him to do things that aren’t necessarily the things he does well.
The Portuguese manager himself has come in for criticism for failing to completely facilitate Paul or to truly build the team around the former Juventus man.
According to Evening Standard, Bacary said: “Everyone has to remember that he is a midfield player but because of his abilities, which is not normal for a player like him, people expect a lot more from him.
“You have to remember that he has some direction from the manager and you have to listen to him – you have to respect the orders on the pitch, because what is more important is the team.
“In some games he is going to have more freedom to attack and some other games he will have to hold like a defensive midfielder. The players are the only ones who know this on the pitch, the fans do not know.
“That is why some people wonder why he doesn’t attack more and why he doesn’t get into the box. It comes from the manager most of the time and you have to respect that.”
This should completely free up the academy graduate next season and so fans should expect to see a new and improve midfielder.
Hopefully Paul returns from the World Cup with France in fine form but more importantly he returns without any injuries so he can star for United.
