Manchester United’s latest signing Fred has revealed his desire to emulate Ryan Giggs and his pride at representing the same colours as the legendary figure.
The Welshman is regarded by some as the club’s best ever player not only due to his talent but also due to his longevity having been at the club as a youngster.
Giggs managed to retire at the club in 2014 at the age of 40 but remained as an assistant manager to Louis van Gaal until the Dutchman was sacked.
Fred didn’t shy away from letting it be known how happy he is to be a part of the same team the former winger was once such a huge part of and is still a part of it’s history.
Ryan is currently working as the Wales senior international team manager with the hopes being that he could lead his nation to the next Euros as well as the World Cup.
“It’s a huge club with great history and it’s a real honour to perform for United. I’m just so happy to have completed the transfer and now look forward to playing for the club.
“Manchester United, as I say, is a huge club. When I was young, it was a name I used to hear and it was a name I used to see on computer games and I used to play with the team. For me, Manchester United means greatness.
“I think the name ‘The Theatre of Dreams’ sums it up. It’s such a great stadium. On that occasion I played against Ryan Giggs and I was so happy to have that opportunity to play against him.
“Now I’m coming to join the club, not to play alongside Giggs, but to play for the team that he represented and to fight for the same colours.”
United fans will be hoping that Fred will seek the same type of longevity at the club but there’s also hope that he can be just as important too.
