Manchester United make an approach for Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic: report

Manchester United have reportedly made an approach for Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic as they step up their efforts to improve their midfield options.

Jose Mourinho had made it clear that he hopes to invest in his midfield and defence this summer transfer window and has done so with the additions of Fred and Diogo Dalot.

Despite signing the Brazilian, United are said to be interested in bringing in another midfielder since Marouane Fellaini appears to be on his way out of the club.

Rakitic was on the club’s radar a while ago as it seemed he was on his way out of the La Liga club but once his form improved, interest cooled as he was set to stay.

The Croatian has impressed on international duty as well, forming a part of his nation’s engine room during the World Cup, performing admirably alongside Luka Modric.

According to Everything Barca, the Red Devils have are preparing a €40m offer for Ivan and are willing to offer €12m as a signing bonus in an effort to tempt him away from Spain.

While the offer is pretty high for the midfielder it’s likely that the report is there just so he can scare his club into offering him a new contract.
