Anthony Martial has spent several days working in his own private gym as he gets ready for the 2018/19 season, although who he will be playing for remains to be seen.
The Frenchman, to the frustration of supporters, was starved of opportunities from January onwards following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez.
His agent confirmed last month that, after a period of consideration, Martial had decided to leave Old Trafford over the summer.
Very little regarding his future has emerged since, and Martial appears to be focusing on getting himself back into shape ahead of – presumably – rejoining the Manchester United team at Carrington next Monday.
Almost three weeks have passed since that bombshell, conveniently placed just before the World Cup, was dropped and supporters started to truly visualise the possibility of Martial – a favourite among so many – departing Old Trafford.
Since then, however, nothing has emerged. It has been deathly quiet. Too quiet, if you ask me. No mention of Juventus. No mention of other clubs expressing interest in any credible report. The line adopted by Jose Mourinho and United is that they have no intentions whatsoever of selling the forward, but you suspect there will be something of a tussle between the two parties over the next few weeks.
Despite the radio silence at the moment, there is a real feeling of inevitability around Martial’s predicament.
