Jose Mourinho reiterates admiration of Ivan Perisic following World Cup semi-final

Jose Mourinho spoke effusively of the strength and pace of Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic following Croatia’s 2-1 win over England in the World Cup semi-final.

The 29-year-old grew into the game, hassling Kieran Tripper on the left hand side, and smartly turned home an equaliser with 21 minutes left.

He was one of Mourinho’s top targets of last summer’s transfer window but opted to sign a new contract at the San Siro instead after negations with Manchester United arrived at a deadlock.

Speaking on RT after the game, Mourinho once again spoke highly of Perisic’s qualities.

Man United would be foolish to go back for Perisic this summer given how difficult talks proved to be with Inter last year – back when he wasn’t buttressed by a new shiny contract and actively wanted to move to Old Trafford. If the move didn’t happen then, it certainly won’t now.

That said, it is easy to see why Mourinho wanted him. United’s attacks from out wide last season stemmed from the ageing pair of Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young, and became growingly predictable.

Mourinho, as things stand, will have to count on the teenager Diogo Dalot to offer some vitality from the flanks next season.
