Report: Manchester United launch €32m bid for AC Milan captain Leonardo Bonucci

Manchester United have reportedly offered €32m for AC Milan captain Leonardo Bonucci as the club’s search for a new centre-back continues this summer.

The position is said to be manager Jose Mourinho‘s main priority ahead of the 2018-19 season, closely followed by an established left-back and back-up striker for Romelu Lukaku.

It was reported last month that there was a list of eight centre-backs being targeted during the transfer window, however, Bonucci was not one of those listed.

However, Italian outlet La Repubblica claim that the Milan skipper’s agent Alessandro Lucci has been discussing the prospect of a move to Man United.

Bonucci only moved to Milan from Juventus in what was a shock transfer last summer for €40m and was instantly given the captain’s armband, but endured a poor season at San Siro as the club stumbled to a sixth-place finish in Serie A.

The 31-year-old has been heavily linked with a switch to Paris-Saint Germain in order to reunite with former Juve team-mate Gianluigi Buffon who moved to France on a free transfer earlier this month.

Milan would be open to selling Bonucci, even though they’d lose money but would free up the hefty €14m a year he’s currently receiving.

Eric Bailly is in need of a long-term partner, and for this reason there are better options out there for United to pursue.
