Report: New Derby County manager Frank Lampard eyeing Demetri Mitchell move

by Alex Turk

Demetri Mitchell could leave Manchester United on a permanent basis this summer and Derby County are reportedly eyeing a £500,000 move for his services.

New manager, Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is looking to bolster his squad ahead of the 2018-19 season where Derby will once again push for promotion into the Premier League.

And it’s now emerged that Mitchell is a top target after impressing last season during his one-year loan spell at Hearts.

According to The Sun, Lampard is hoping the promise of regular first-team football will be enough to lure the 21-year-old to Pride Park this summer.

Mitchell is entering the final year of his contract at United and it’s unknown whether he’ll sign an extension or opt for the step up to first-team action at this stage in his career.

He’d be an excellent acquisition for any Championship side and carries a lot of promise as a left-back, left-winger and even a striker – three positions he’s comfortably played in throughout his career.

Heading back up to Scotland for another season is an option for the starlet, but it’s likely to make him sway towards a permanent exit even more considering Jose Mourinho‘s desire to bring in a new left-back in the current transfer window.

Mitchell has made one appearance for the first team in a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, the final Premier League game of the 2016-17 campaign.
