Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has admitted he doesn’t know just why Inter Milan and Croatia star Ivan Perisic didn’t join the club.
The Portuguese manager was said to be heavily interested in the winger following the unsuccessful attempt to sign Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale.
Perisic was said to be the more realistic transfer but unfortunately that eventually didn’t prove to be the case with the two club’s failing to reach an agreement.
However, Mourinho’s suggestion is one that seems to hint it was the player who turned down the move rather than the Italian giants themselves.
Milan were reported to have asked for £10m more than what United were offering and so negotiations died off in that stage of the transfer.
This is perhaps the first time Jose officially and publicly spoke about his interest in Ivan, coming ahead of the Croat’s clash with France in the final.
Paul Pogba‘s nation won the World Cup following their 4-2 win and it could potentially spark a run of form from the midfielder that’ll please his manager.
The Frenchman was outstanding throughout the tournament and was certainly one of the reason’s his country managed to win football’s greatest prize in international football.
