Manchester United icon Nicky Butt believes France’s Paul Pogba has been the outstanding midfielder of the World Cup ahead of the final.
The tournament will come to a conclusion later today with the Les Bleus taking on surprise finalists Croatia who will be looking to win it for the first time ever.
Pogba has never won the competition before but his nation have once before, 20 years ago when current manager Didier Deschamps was a part of that squad.
Butt, who was a midfielder himself, believes the United star has been perhaps the best in the position for the World Cup so far though there’s arguments to be made that title should go to one of his opponents.
Real Madrid’s Luka Modric is Croatia’s captain and has almost singlehandedly led his nation to the final, potentially at the cusp of winning it too.
Some people even believe Modric should win the Ballon d’Or if he manages to get his hands on the World Cup though the personal trophy has pretty much remained in the hands of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for quite some time.
Paul though deserves to be named in the tournament’s best eleven at the very least for his consistent and outstanding performance for his country.
