The defender has rejoined his boyhood club after four years at Old Trafford for a fee of £14.1 which could rise to £18.1m.
He made 141 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United, but a move away this summer was always bound to happen following a prolonged period away from the starting XI.
Young took to Instagram to show his appreciation for ‘Mr Blind Like The Wind’ – a nickname which won’t catch on, you suspect – after it was confirmed he’d joined Ajax.
Former Man United keeper Edwin van der Sar, now on the board at Ajax, thanked United for taking care of one of their homegrown gems and welcomed him back to Amsterdam. I am still not decided on whether his announcement video, headlined ‘Daley’s Coming Home’, is a terrible cringe or absolutely brilliant.
Either way, this is a move which satisfies both parties. Ajax have a player who has the club’s DNA running through his veins, while United have now opened up some room for another signing before the transfer window closes. Matteo Darmian, who found himself in the same position as Blind last season, is expected to depart Old Trafford as well.
