Manchester United fans were definitely pleased with Luke Shaw‘s performance vs Club America in the side’s first pre-season fixture of the summer.
It ended all square at 1-1 so it’s fair to say it wasn’t a classic but certain players already attempted to stake a claim in the first team.
Shaw was certainly one of those players, impressing defensively and going forward, giving Jose Mourinho a headache on his starting line-up for the season.
The Portuguese manager already claimed the Englishman will start the season at left-back due to the absences of United’s World Cup stars but the concern for him is when they return.
Ashley Young will be expected to return in favour of Luke but if he can keep up this type of performance, he may just dislodge the veteran.
Luke Shaw sending Ashley Young into retirement, I love his runs inside the box right now but I want to see some crosses.

Shaw was pretty lively, hopefully gets a good crack at it this season

Enjoyed that, fast pace to the game to give the lads a real workout.
Chong, Pereira and Shaw were the ones that caught my eye.

Chong, Pereira and Shaw over the others. EASILY the best players on the pitch.

Decent first game. Pereira, Chong, Shaw and Bailly were very impressive. Couple of the others need to improve quite a bit in the next one but not a a bad first game at all. @ManUtd

Thought Shaw did well, better defensively in the second than the first. Would like to see him start all of these games and see if he can find form

It’s, once again, a hugely significant season for Shaw, especially as time is running out for him to fulfil the bright potential he showed when he arrived from Southampton.
His position is constantly under threat and it shouldn’t be a surprise should Mourinho just opt to cut his losses and sign a proven full-back.
Hopefully that won’t be the case and Luke can prove just why United invested in him so heavily several seasons ago.
