The Frenchman was said to be on the lookout for a move away from the club after being disappointed with how contract renewal negotiations were going.
Instead of a new contract, it appears United are waiting to make a decision on his future and are only willing to trigger an extension that will see him remain until 2020.
Martial’s future is very much in the air and his two appearances in pre-season friendlies so far hasn’t helped his cause if he does actually want to remain at the club.
Given an opportunity to impress as a striker on both occasions, the attacker was disappointing to say the least and may have convinced his manager to invest in a back-up striker.

Reports of the Red Devils’ interest in signing Mario Mandzukic as a back-up to Romelu Lukaku make more and more sense following Anthony’s performances.
Juventus should be more willing to negotiate sales since they recently signed Cristiano Ronaldo for around £100m so perhaps a deal could be struck.
As for Martial, he’ll either need to step up his form or back down from the stubborn stance his agent’s taken in negotiations so far.
