Manchester United fans were bitterly disappointed by Anthony Martial‘s performance vs San Jose Earthquakes in the club’s second pre-season fixture.
The Frenchman featured as a striker and as a left-winger during the match but failed to impress in either positions with their being serious questions raised on his attitude.
Martial so far has had two opportunities to prove to Jose Mourinho United don’t need a back-up striker to Romelu Lukaku but unfortunately didn’t take them.
The attacker will be looking over his shoulder once the Belgian returns to link up with the rest of the squad as it’ll mean seriously reduced match time.
Marcus Rashford will also be gunning for a starting XI spot and it’s already known Mourinho prefers him to Anthony due to inconsistencies.
I want Martial to be a success but he’s been atrocious this evening. #MUFC

Martial’s been extremely underwhelming. Spent 88 minutes looking for a way to defend him but I can’t. Saying that, so has nearly every other player excluding Pereira and Sánchez.

Only pre-season etc. but #mufc so devoid of creativity. Martial not cutting it up front and has been attack overly reliant on Sanchez. A new forward is essential but that was known in May.

Martial has been touted by a few European clubs though there’s been mixed reports over whether he wants to stay with the Red Devils or not.
The club are said to have been considering triggering his extension clause that will see him stay until 2020 if a new contract isn’t resolved by then.
However, Jose may be tempted to just cash in and invest the money in more important areas of the squad despite the potential Anthony has shown.
