Telegraph: Jose Mourinho open to selling Anthony Martial this summer

Jose Mourinho will not force Anthony Martial to stay at Manchester United if he wants to leave the club this summer, according to the Telegraph.

The Frenchman’s agent confirmed in June that his client, who struggled for game time following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in January, wanted to leave the club.

However, no such move has gone through as of yet, with club vice chairman Ed Woodward is determined to keep Martial, a favourite among supporters.

According to Luke Edwards, Mourinho will sanction a move away for Martial if the forward personally tells the boss that he wants to leave the club.

The 55-year-old does not want to work with a player who is unsettled at the club and will seek talks with Martial to determine the forward’s intentions heading into the 2018/19 campaign.

Mourinho gave supporters hope by noting he intended to begin the Premier League campaign with a front three comprising of Martial, Alexis Sanchez and Juan Mata. It remains far from certain whether the Frenchman will line up against Leicester City on August 10.

One thing for sure is that United as a club do not want Martial going anywhere, with Woodward keen on triggering an extension clause on Martial’s contract which keeps him at the club until 2020.
