Luke Shaw: I want to play as many games as possible this season

Manchester United star Luke Shaw has set his target for the season, stating he hopes to play as many games as possible for the club.

The Englishman hasn’t had the best of careers since moving to Old Trafford, suffering with form and fitness during various campaigns.

Shaw was also accused of not having the right attitude by Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal along with former manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Last season he recovered from his injuries but failed to beat Ashley Young to the starting XI after the veteran impressed his manager.

However, with hopefully a full pre-season under his belt and the former Watford man temporarily out of the picture, there’s hope the former Southampton star can kickstart his career.

According to the club’s official website, Luke said: “I’m really excited. This is what you work towards, the start of the season, during pre-season.

“I’m really looking forward to it and hopefully when the first game comes, I’m ready and I can get to start a game. I want to play as many games as possible this season.

“Hopefully I can cement a place and play many more games than I did last season because, at the end of the day, I want to be playing football matches and hopefully I can do that this season.”

Shaw will have at least a few games to impress Jose before Young can prove himself fit for Premier League action so there’s some time to do the business.

Whether the youngster grabs the opportunity with both hands or not will certainly show with time but he has very little competition to make the left-back spot his own.

Competing with an ageing, former winger isn’t exactly the toughest of jobs for a young, fit and bursting with potential star such as Luke.
