Paul Scholes: Paul Pogba needs to use his brain more

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has launched yet another scathing attack at Paul Pogba, claiming the player needs to use his brain more.

The Frenchman has been the subject of ridiculous amounts of criticism even after winning the World Cup with his nation and playing such a big part in it.

Pogba almost singlehandedly dragged his team to the final and there’s no real surprise he scored a goal on the day as well as found himself being named man of the match.

Plent is expected from the midfielder but at least for now there are no doubts over his ability to perform for his nation.

The question is now whether he could do the same for United and Scholes certainly isn’t optimistic with his latest comments.

According to the Daily Mail, Paul said to beIN Sport: “Paul needs to find consistency, I think. You look at his game… he can be brilliant one week, not so good the next.

“He seems to be a player that you get a performance out of one in every three or four games. If you’re going to win leagues, it’s not enough. It’s just not enough.

“He needs to become that commanding player he was at Juventus. He was part of a set structure at Juventus; he knew every week what position he was going to play, who he was going to play with.

“I don’t think that helps him at United because I’ll be amazed if the same team has been named twice in a row and the same formation, there doesn’t seem to be a set way of where it’s going and that could possibly work against him.

“There’s no doubt the lad has real quality, he’s shown it at this World Cup. He can play, he’s such a strong lad – such a strong player – such a fit lad, he can run, great technique as well, great ability.

“But he needs to use his brain a little bit more to become a top footballer.”

It seems the former Juventus man will get his wish of playing in a midfield three alongside new signing Fred and Nemanja Matic.

It’s certainly a midfield capable of competing with the best in the Premier League and there’s hope it will bring out the best from Pogba.

The academy product is set to have an outstanding season in his third year with the Red Devils and it’s arguably his most crucial one.
