Demetri Mitchell stunned Manchester United teammates and even got Jose Mourinho into the mood with a superbly delivered rendition of Drake’s ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ as part of an initiation song at the club’s hotel in Los Angeles last night.
Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong and Joshua Bohui have all been filmed performing an initiation song as a series of youngsters embark on their first pre-season tour with the first team squad.
And they have a difficult act to follow. Mitchell, sounding not too dissimilar to Bruno Mars, demonstrated his vocal capabilities in emphatic fashion, and his teammates simply couldn’t control themselves. Even Mourinho was impressed, whipping his phone out to record the whole thing before players threw Mitchell in the air.

Much has been made of Mourinho’s surly mood in press conferences and the club’s lack of signings over the the last few days, and how the current state of affairs indicates an inevitable third season meltdown under the Portuguese.
But nothing within the camp suggests anything like that is on the horizon. A family-like atmosphere, as seen in this video, is present within the group. Young players are having an experience of their lives. New coaching staff are settling in well. The online storm is not present under the Californian sun.
You can only hope this atmosphere of friendship and cooperation continues as the 2018/19 season progresses.
And if football doesn’t work out for Mitchell, he’s always got something else to fall back on.
