Jose Mourinho wants a new central defender before the transfer window closes and has pinpointed Maguire as an option following the defender’s superb World Cup with England this summer.
Maguire made it clear in an interview earlier this week that, having enjoyed a taste of the big occasion, he wanted to continue playing at the highest level.
And according to Sky Sports, Man United value the defender at around £65m and will dedicate the next two weeks towards securing his services.
Maguire, who returns from holiday in the next few days, is understood to be keen on moving to Old Trafford but Leicester are unwilling to part ways with a player who only joined them from Hull City for £17m last summer.
United would also have to oversee the departure of one of their own defenders to make way for Maguire. Marcos Rojo, who hasn’t joined the pre-season tour due to injury, is the most likely candidate, but his current wage of around £100,000 could be a problem when finding potential suitors.
Mourinho has signed central defenders in both previous transfer windows as United boss. All the signs are pointing towards a third being on its way.
