Manchester United star Luke Shaw has revealed he’s made a decision on his near future at the club, confirming he will remain this season.
Much has been made of reports linking the club with Alex Sandro and it was believed the youngster was the one being replaced.
Even though veteran Ashley Young would make more sense to be moved on, it’s been made clear that Jose Mourinho trusts him significantly.
Nonetheless, the rumours won’t mean much after Shaw confirmed he’s staying at the club for at least the upcoming season if not further.
His comments are in line with reports that claimed Mourinho is happy with Young and the former Southampton man as his left-back options for the campaign.
According to Manchester Evening News, Luke said: “Yes. I will be [staying] unless something changes dramatically and the manager comes to me and says I’m not in his plans.
“I want to play football. I’m not just here to pick up my salary and do nothing. I’m young, I’m still 23 and still have a very long career, and I want to play games.”
It’s great to see Shaw confirm his future and put to bed the rumours but the upcoming season is likely to be his last shot at proving his worth.
The Red Devils are unlikely to wait anymore than they already have for him to turn his potential into ability as it’s one of the weaker areas in the squad.
Hopefully he can erase all doubt over whether he can be a Manchester United full-back or not by establishing himself in the starting XI.
