Manchester United legend Wes Brown has revealed his thoughts on his former club’s interest in signing Barcelona’s Yerry Mina, believing a partnership could be formed.
The Colombian emerged as a surprise target of Jose Mourinho’s after it was claimed interest in Leicester City’s Harry Maguire cooled as a deal was not being negotiated.
It appears the two clubs couldn’t come to an agreement and so United have stepped up their efforts to sign Mina who the Spanish side are said to be willing to let go.
The defender doesn’t fit the reported characteristics Jose is said to be looking for which are an experienced, proven leader but Brown has hope.
Eric Bailly is expected to be a first choice in defence and Yerry could forge a solid partnership with him if things go according to plan.
According to Manchester Evening News, Wes said to 888Sport: “Mina could be a good partner for Bailly. Obviously, he’s not played in the Premier League before but he actually did very well in the World Cup.
“I think Harry Maguire would be first choice but that doesn’t take anything away from Mina who is a good player.”
If Mina is indeed signed for the sake of playing alongside Bailly then the question does need to be asked over what it means for Victor Lindelof.
The former Benfica man was almost specifically brought to Manchester United for the sole purpose of creating an indestructible defence with the Ivorian.
Lindelof was linked with a move away on loan or permanently though he may be tempted with the latter if Yerry is coming to take his place.
