Times journalist Sam Pilger has claimed Toby Alderweireld will complete a move to Manchester United “next week”.
Just five days remain before the transfer window closes, with Man United’s only big signing – to go with youngster Diogo Dalot and veteran keeper Lee Grant – being Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk.
Jose Mourinho has his heart set on signing the Belgian defender but Tottenham Hotspur, yet to make a signing in the window, are playing hardball over his valuation – thought to be around £60m.
But Pilger has claimed that a deal is set to go through as the deadline draws nearer next week.
#MUFC increasingly confident they will finally sign Toby Alderweireld next week.

The transfer window has the potential to be an excruciating affair, dragging itself along as if it were running on fumes and the occasional baseless rumour, before suddenly bursting into life in dramatic fashion.
And that is exactly what this next week will entail: with the clock ticking, clubs all over the world will be forced to act. It happens every year, without fail. The avalanche is on its way. And amid the chaos, you get the feeling that Spurs – surely keen to avoid selling Alderweireld for just £25m next summer – will eventually yield to United’s demands at some point in the coming days.
