Jose Mourinho wants Manchester United to secure a central defender and another attacking player before the transfer window closes on Thursday, according to the Times‘ Paul Hirst.
The 55-year-old stressed once again following defeat to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena that the board knew what he wanted with three days until the transfer window closes.
Toby Alderweireld has been the club’s primary target for some time but a recent explosion of reports, stemming from German media outlet Bild, suggest Man United have diverted their attention towards signing Jerome Boateng from Bayern Munich instead.
And according to Hirst, on top of signing Boateng for around £50m the club has been told by Mourinho to force through the transfer of another attacking player.
The Portuguese certainly won’t be holding his breath over another attacker. He has previously spoken of a desire for two more signings but admitted he was likely to only get one.
That one signing has been viewed as Alderweireld, whose relationship with Tottenham Hotspur is strained to say the least, but Monday’s events have changed the complexion entirely. All the talk now surrounds Boateng, who you can tell was miles down the manager’s order of preference ahead of the summer.
