Manchester United target Yerry Mina is on the verge of completing a move to Everton, according to Spanish media outlet Marca.
The club begun to target Mina, who enjoyed a superb World Cup, after it became clear that Leicester City’s asking price for Harry Maguire was too high.
Emphasis remains on Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld, although Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has also emerged as a target.
According to Marca, Everton are closing in on Mina after striking an agreement with Barcelona over the player’s fee.
United had, according to other reports, offered an improved fee to Barcelona but Mina, whose priority after an excellent summer will be to receive minutes on the pitch, has his heart set on moving to Merseyside. Everton’s interest in Mina dates back to before the World Cup.
Either way, United’s reported interest in Mina has dissipated as quickly as it emerged. That the likes of Everton, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton were the other interested parties suggests United should never have gone there in the first place. That said, he would have offered dance moves and plenty of chaos at the back, which would have been fun, I guess.
Either way, emphasis has to be on acquiring Toby Alderweireld – Mourinho’s first choice – as the transfer deadline draws ever closer.
