Reports in Germany this morning claimed that Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has rejected Manchester United because he doesn’t think they are capable of winning the Champions League.
However, there have been some key developments since and it still seems like a move could very well happen before the summer transfer window slams shut tomorrow at 5PM.
Boateng has been one of four main names linked to United this summer during Mourinho’s search for a new centre-back – the others being Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld, Barcelona’s Yerry Mina and Leicester City’s Harry Maguire.
Although Alderweireld and Maguire appear to be the more realistic options at this stage, the 29-year-old is wanting a route out of Bayern this summer and a transfer could materialise in time.
United supporters are sceptical over Boateng’s potential arrival because of the Germany international’s injury proneness in the past but there is no denying that he would dramatically improve Mourinho’s defensive options.
With just over 24 hours to go until the window closes for another five months, it really is squeaky bum time.
