Manchester United star Juan Mata has revealed he would’ve loved to have played alongside club legend Eric Cantona.
The Spaniard is a different type of player to the Frenchman though the latter did occasionally feature as an attacking midfielder.
Mata’s position has changed over the season though his role remains fairly the same with his passing and vision often relied upon.
A playmaker through and through, some argued the former Valencia man has no room in Jose Mourinho’s United team.
Two years later though, the 30 year old is still regularly involved in the first team whilst others have been moved on by the Portuguese manager.
According to Manchester Evening News, Juan said: “Eric Cantona. There is something really special about him and I would have loved to play with him. The King.”
It’s likely if Mata and Cantona played alongside each other the Red Devils would’ve scored plenty more goals than they already did during that era.
If anything, the former striker is needed now in a very similar way to how he was needed back then by Sir Alex Ferguson.
Many believe it was Eric who kickstarted Manchester United’s trophy laden years due to his personality, mentality and of course ability.
The club have struggled since Sir Alex’s retirement and it could be argued there’s a need for a Cantona-esque player to get things going again.
