Manchester United will be without several first-team faces once again for the trip down to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon as they look to build on their opening day win in the Premier League.
Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw‘s goals helped Man United to a 2-1 triumph over Leicester City at Old Trafford to make a positive start to the 2018-19 campaign, but plenty of key names were missing from the starting line-up and bench.
Ashley Young and Romelu Lukaku were only amongst the substitutes due to their World Cup exploits over the summer but are both expected to be fit to start on the south coast. The squad still won’t be at full strength though.
Speaking to the media, Jose Mourinho confirmed: “Lingard, Matic and Valencia have been training with the team since yesterday. [They are] fully fit but not yet [ready] to play or even to be selected, I think, and that’s it.”
As well as the names he mentioned in his pre-match press conference, United also look set to be without the likes of Sergio Romero, Diogo Dalot, Marcos Rojo and Ander Herrera who are all still nursing injuries.
Mourinho will still be confident of getting a result to avenge the toothless 1-0 loss at the AMEX Stadium last season, but he’ll want his favoured stars back sooner rather than later before fixtures begin the build up.
