Questions were raised when Alexis Sanchez wasn’t pictured travelling with the Manchester United ahead of Sunday’s trip to Brighton & Hove Albion, with many supporters jumping to the conclusion that he was injured.
Man United could have done with his services as they fell to a 3-2 defeat, the club’s second in a row at the AMEX Stadium, after first-half goals from Glenn Murray, Shane Duffy and a Pascal Gross penalty.
Jose Mourinho confirmed fans’ fears after full-time by stating that Alexis had suffered a knock in training and therefore felt like it was a good opportunity to offer other attackers, in this case Anthony Martial, game time.
Evidently deflated after full-time, the United manager revealed: “I don’t know, but let’s wait for the result. I would say he would be out for one week, two weeks, max.”
Alexis was one of United’s strongest performers throughout pre-season and has been tipped to be one of the club’s stars this term after struggling to fit in when he joined from Arsenal back in January.
Mourinho will be hoping that his no. 7 can recover in time for Monday’s important clash with Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford, in which United will be hoping to avoid falling further behind their title rivals.
