Former Manchester United man Lee Sharpe has made a damning statement on Jose Mourinho, claiming he’d be gone by Christmas.
The Portuguese boss is under huge pressure to deliver this season, particularly after the disappointing summer transfer window.
United made only one major signing in Fred while also adding depth to the squad in Lee Grant and Diogo Dalot.
Pre-season results were also terrible for Mourinho while Sunday’s shock loss to Brighton has left Sharpe to conclude he’ll be sacked soon.
There’s no doubt this is the former Chelsea manager’s toughest season at the club and he now truly has his back against the wall.
According to Manchester Evening News, Lee said to Press Association Sport: “He is the wrong man for the job. When he came to Chelsea the first time he was quite charming and fun, but now he just seems dour and fed up.
“The football’s not entertaining and what makes it twice as bad is that their two biggest rivals, Man City and Liverpool, do play exciting football.
“His negative style does not fit in with the expansive football that United fans want. I think he’ll be gone before Christmas.”
In what is now Jose’s third season at the club, the Red Devils are yet to play regularly with a real identity, even if it’s a defensive one.
Fans have grown increasingly frustrated with the inability to create chances on a regular basis and the lack of cohesion between players.
The loss to Brighton might’ve been bearable had Manchester United registered more than just three shots on target with one of those coming as a penalty.
Whether Mourinho will survive this campaign or not is yet to be seen but if he is moved on then who do the club replace him with?
