Manchester United fans were certainly ecstatic following the latest reports claiming Anthony Martial is set for a new five year contract.
The Frenchman appeared set to leave the club following his fractured relationship with Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese manager was also said to be willing to sell Martial but wasn’t allowed to by the board.
Whatever was going on behind the scenes, it appears the winger’s future will now be at Old Trafford.
Anthony’s agent had stirred up a storm during the summer when he claimed his client wanted to leave following a break down in contract negotiations.
No one can doubt Anthony Martial's commitment to Manchester United if he's really willing to sign a long-term contract under a manager that doesn't fancy him. He might think he can outlast him, but that's still a massive commitment to make if it happens. Great for the club.

Anthony Martial is close to signing a new 5 year deal. His commitment is admirable. He has had his doubters and that includes some at the club, but that day he scored against Liverpool, he knew what it meant to be here. He wouldnβt throw it away easily. Toto is here to stay.

Martial set to sign a new 5 year contract? Well that's unexpected. If true though, shows he cares about the club. Defo thought he was off after all his agent talk. What a strange situation overall.

It’s believed the United board wanted to extend Martial’s contract a while ago but nothing came to be.
This then angered the former AS Monaco man and his agent and so the rumours began before the released statement.
However, it now seems as though everything will finally be put to bed though supporters would be wise to hold on until official news is released.
Once the club announce his extension then fans can be as happy or excited as they like.
Anthony has plenty of work ahead of him though to prove his worth to Mourinho, who doesn’t seem too keen on playing him regularly yet.
