Manchester United legend Phil Neville has revealed how Jose Mourinho and Sir Alex Ferguson are alike, defending the former as the right man for the job.
The Portuguese boss has come under tremendous scrutiny of late with him even being the favourite to lose his job first out of all the Premier League managers.
United have lost two out of their first three fixtures of the season which has frustrated fans, especially the shock defeat to Brighton.
However, Neville insists Mourinho is the right man simply because of his history and claims he’s like Sir Alex in how he protects his players.
Some supporters were actually getting annoyed with how the former Real Madrid manager was previously publicly criticising his players.
According to This Is Futbol, Phil said to BBC: “He’ll not be happy with what he has seen in the first three games but he is the right man for the job because of his proven track record.
“All the focus is on Jose because he is taking the battering at the moment. That is a sign of a courageous manager that doesn’t throw his players under a bus and is protecting them.
“There were times when Sir Alex Ferguson took the pressure off us as players. There are players in that Man United dressing room that probably know that they can be playing better but he is not criticising them publicly at the moment.
“He is actually taking the hits for them.”
However, lately Jose hasn’t actually been calling out any of his players and has even been praising one he consistently name dropped in Luke Shaw.
The Englishman has been in fantastic form so far this season and has earned the positive reviews from his manager because of it.
Nonetheless, Mourinho has to prove he’s the right man by turning things around. It’s still early in the season but the need for points is already quite desperate.
