Luis Suarez has insisted Paul Pogba is always welcome to join Barcelona, firing a dig at Manchester United by claiming the Frenchman “would like to be competing for more than he is at the moment.”
Pogba enjoyed a thrilling victorious World Cup campaign with France over the summer during which he demonstrated leadership qualities and scored in the final against Croatia.
His agent, Mino Raiola, has been reportedly working behind the scenes to secure a deal with Barcelona, who supposedly launched an unsuccessful bid worth £45m plus Andre Gomes and Yerry Mina to sign the midfielder.
And Suarez has fanned the flames further by insisting Pogba would be a superb fit at the Camp Nou.
“Pogba’s an elite player who’s won everything,” he said. “He has a lot of quality and he’s one of the references at United.”
“I think he would like to be competing for more than he is at the moment. He’s not a player that belongs to Barca, but he would always be welcome.”
The Uruguayan, who likes biting people and being racist, is quite clearly trying to stir something here at a time when, frankly, nothing is going to happen in terms of Pogba going anywhere.
That said, the spectre of Barcelona and Raiola nonetheless looms ominously. Pogba could breach any starting XI in the world and another trophy-less, unsuccessful season – with him receiving the brunt of the criticism – at Old Trafford will quite naturally lead to his agent securing a deal elsewhere.
