Video: David de Gea makes stunning save from Marcus Rashford

David de Gea sent a massive message to his critics with a stunning save during Spain’s 2-1 win over England at Wembley.

The 27-year-old had suffered widespread criticism from the Spanish press following a shaky World Cup campaign in Russia.

But he produced a save from a Marcus Rashford header in the first half that reminded everybody exactly why he is regarded as the best in the world.

Here is a video of the remarkable stop which proved pivotal in the context of the game given it kept the scoreline at 2-1.

The cross sailed so perfectly towards Rashford, suspended in mid-air and with the goal gaping in front of him, that it felt as if the net would naturally bulge, only for De Gea’s hand to somehow claw the arrowed header away and over the bar.

It was phenomenal. De Gea’s reaction time never fails to boggle the mind. And this was not a unique save from him either.

The point-blanc nature of the header, the speed and inevitability of it, followed by the massive paw was uncannily reminiscent of his stop from Luis Muriel at Sevilla in February as well as Sergio Aguero in that historic game at the Ethiad .
