The 55-year-old worked with Ozil during his time at Madrid and maintains a good relationship with the attacking midfielder.
Manchester United reportedly kept tabs on him over the 2017/18 campaign but Ozil opted to sign a new contract at the Emirates instead.
But according to the Express‘ Neil Fissler, Mourinho has not given up on the prospect of signing Ozil and will make an attempt to sign him over the January window.
This would be a strange and grossly expense transfer to say the least. Many supporters continue to bemoan the club’s decision to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal last January, which largely killed United’s attacking momentum for the second half of the campaign.
Signing another player from Arsenal in January, therefore, would not be the best PR. United have made too many of these signings in the recent past, you may argue.
Nonetheless, confiscating two of Arsenal’s best players for the last few years in the space of 12 months would, if nothing else, be quite funny.
