Legendary Premier League goalkeeper David Seaman believes Manchester United fans will side with their manager Jose Mourinho in the Portuguese’s recent spat with midfielder Paul Pogba.
The Frenchman was removed as the club’s vice-captain earlier this week after he made comments regarding Man United’s style of play at Old Trafford, seemingly going against Jose Mourinho’s tactics.
Those kind of inflammatory comments have been wearyingly frequent with Pogba since he re-joined the Reds in 2016 from Juventus in an £89 million deal.
Mourinho refuted claims that the pair have fallen out on Tuesday night after United had been beaten 8-7 on penalties by Derby County in the League Cup third round.
Seaman believes Mourinho will have the support of the United fans. With four goals and two assists in his seven games this season from Pogba, it’s very possible that United fans could back the player over the manager. Seaman does not think so.
“Look at how many trophies he’s won,” Seaman told talkSPORT.
“It’s a hard decision. I think Manchester United fans are getting more on Jose’s side than Pogba’s.”
The former-Arsenal man did question whether United fans would be happy with their side’s style of play, though.
“We saw that last night with Derby. Are they entertaining?” Seaman pondered.
“Would Manchester United fans rather see them win and not really be entertained?
“Or just full out entertaining?
“They need to learn how to win games without really playing well.”
At the moment, United are neither playing well, nor winning frequently. It’s a time of turmoil.
The Pogba situation is one that needs sorting immediately. If Mourinho cannot sort it, then someone from higher up at United has to make sure the pair’s spat does not stop United from having some kind of success this season.
