Cristiano Ronaldo will return to Old Trafford for the second time in his career despite fears he could have missed Juventus’ trip to Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League.
The Portuguese legend was sent off in the Old Lady’s opening group stage game against Valencia and there were immediate worries that Ronaldo would be suspended by his side’s visit to Manchester, where he spent six years lighting up the Premier League before leaving to join Real Madrid.
Ronaldo is utterly adored at Man United and was the hero of so many young fans of a certain generation. The news that he could miss the game was devasting for some, while others celebrated it as it would certainly improve United’s chances of victory.
However, it has now been confirmed that Ronaldo will serve only a one-match ban for his red card offence against Valencia, where he seemed to grab the hair of a player. That means he’ll only miss Juventus’ fixture against Young Boys, the Swiss champions that United easily dispatched of a couple of weeks ago as Paul Pogba scored a brace.
He’ll be available for both the home and away fixture for Juventus against United. Those fixtures come consecutively, with United playing at home first in what will be the third game of the group stages for the two sides.
Ronaldo’s short suspension is bad news for United in some ways, though. Juventus will be strengthened now for all their games as they, United and Valencia compete to qualify.
