Dean Jones: Manchester United have opened up contract talks with Luke Shaw

by Leo Nieboer

Manchester United have entered talks with Luke Shaw over a new contract following the Englishman’s superb start to the 2018/19 season, according to Bleacher Report‘s Dean Jones.

Shaw, whose contract expires in the summer, looked set to be replaced over the summer following another season on the fringes at Old Trafford.

But he has exploded into life this season, churning out energetic, confident performances every week, winning the ‘Player of the Month’ award twice in a row.

And according to Jones, the 23-year-old has been rewarded by the club for his excellent displays in a red shirt with fresh contract talks.

It felt as if Shaw was past the point of return at Old Trafford. For so long he had promised, faltered, disappeared, came back for a bit and then disappeared again, seemingly forever, only to repeat the whole thing again the next season. That process can only last so long: you either fall away for good or fulfil your potential.

And Shaw, with his United career on the line, managed the latter, playing like a man possessed in these first two months. We are seeing the Shaw was have always dreamed: as a ruthlessly energetic, highly skilful modern wing back. Long may it continue.
