Alexis Sanchez will be granted more opportunities to play down the middle at Manchester United after the international break, according to reports.
The former Arsenal man, signed in January, has struggled to make a tangible impact on this team from out wide, managing just four goals in total.
Romelu Lukaku’s disappointing form of late – he hasn’t scored in six games – coupled with Sanchez’s late winner against Newcastle has prompted many supporters into suggesting a more central role on the pitch for the Chilean.
And according to Bleacher Report‘s Dean Jones, insiders at the club have insisted Mourinho plans to give Sanchez more minutes down the middle to take the pressure off Lukaku.
Admitting you are wrong as a manager is tough – especially when you’re Jose Mourinho and almost £350m has been spent in your name – but that is exactly what the United boss needs to do when it comes to Sanchez.
The 29-year-old has looked lonely and useless shunted out wide in a system with no movement. Anything remotely positive from Sanchez has come from being closer to the box or attacking down the middle. And with Lukaku in something of a slump, desperately in need of competition, giving Sanchez a new role feels only logical.
