ESPN reports that De Gea many snub a new deal at Old Trafford if his close friends Mata and Herrera leave the club.
All three are nearing the end of their respective contracts at the club. While Mata and Herrera’s deals expire at the end of the season, Man United do have the option of triggering a one-year extension clause in De Gea’s deal and so his contract will likely be automatically renewed until 2020.
However, there is some concern over the number of key players who could leave the club on free transfers in the coming couple of seasons at United.
Herrera and Mata will be free to talk to other clubs in the January transfer window if they don’t pen new deals in Manchester in the next couple of months.
The Spanish trio have a great relationship at United and are often seen giving each other lifts to training and going out with each other.
Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly preparing to make a move for De Gea if contract negotiations continue to drag on. They’re looking to replace Gianluigi Buffon with a long-term successor and De Gea could prove the perfect match.
However, other reports indicate that United have “never been more confident” of tying De Gea down to a new deal at the club.
