Jamie Redknapp has urged Manchester United not to sell young striker Anthony Martial after the Frenchman scored twice against Chelsea.
Martial almost steered the Reds to their first win at Stamford Bridge in all competitions since October 2012. However, Man United’s bogey ground continued to be just that as Ross Barkley netted a 96th-minute equaliser for the hosts.
However, United’s second half performance was pleasing and Martial looked confident as he finished two chances with aplomb. For both goals, the 22-year-old showed superb composure and then finishing well past Kepa in the Chelsea goal.
Redknapp said Martial has shown that he would make United regret it if they chose to sell him in the future.
“It would be a massive gamble to sell that boy,” Redknapp told Sky Sports after the 2-2 draw on Saturday lunchtime in West London.
“He could make an absolute fool of you.”
Mourinho has seen enough players leave under him and then make a fool of him. Just ask Kevin de Bruyne.
Perhaps he’ll learn his lesson. Redknapp thinks that Martial can become one of United’s best ever wide players if he finds some consistency.
“All the great United wingers that we’ve seen over the years, he has the ability to be as good as any of them,” the pundit added.
It was a superb showing from Martial, whose future at Old Trafford has been questioned frequently. It looked very likely that he would be sold either this summer or next summer after a variety of events, but his performances thus far this season have been good and his attitude better. Mourinho has even praised him individually, something he rarely did until this season.
