The 22-year-old netted a brace for Man United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday lunchtime as the Reds came painfully close to achieving a first win at Chelsea in all competitions since October 2012.
The West London stadium has proved a bogey ground for United for a long time and Martial’s double seemed to have dragged the side out of a bad record at the Bridge, but Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley equalised in the 95th-minute.
Young was named Man of the Match on Sky Sports for the Chelsea game and captained United in Antonio Valencia’s absence. The veteran has played all over the pitch for the club and has seen a number of talented players come and go.
He believes it’s astonishing that Martial isn’t regularly selected by France manager Didier Deschamps.
“To be honest I am not sure why he [Martial] is not in the France squad, but that is down to the French manager,” Young said.
“For me, I see him day in, day out and he is some talent.”
Martial’s inconsistency and lack of game time has been a huge issue. It is actually understandable that he isn’t a constant in the France squad. He missed out on the summer’s World Cup side as France lifted the greatest trophy in football in Russia.
It must have been gutting for the father-of-two but his recent form will hopefully convince United boss Jose Mourinho to give him more starts and thus convince Deschamps to select him in his squad.
