Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Alexis Sanchez is not fit for Manchester United’s meeting with Juventus in the Champions League.
The Chilean has not started a game for Man United since their last Champions League outing – a miserable 0-0 draw with Valencia.
He played for Chile over the international break and came on at Stamford Bridge, but was not seen at the team’s training session earlier today.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the game, Mourinho noted that Sanchez was simply not fit for the game.
“The players you saw are the players available. Nothing to hide and Alexis is out,” he said.
Mourinho noted ahead of playing Chelsea that some players had returned from international duty with fresh knocks. And you get the sense that Sanchez, who played for Chile just last Wednesday, was one of them.
He was not part of the travelling squad ahead of the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge and seems to have been a late inclusion. Mourinho needed fresh legs further up the pitch and, with Jesse Lingard still injured, it seems as if the 55-year-old had no choice but to use Alexis.
Supporters will look forward to seeing Anthony Martial receive another chance to impress on a huge stage on Tuesday night.
