Manchester United are “serious” about pursuing a deal for Serie A midfielder Nicolo Barella.
Calciomercato reports that the Cagliari player is of serious interest to Jose Mourinho’s side.
Barella could cost around €50 million if Man United are to make an offer during the January transfer window. That would be a premium because of the timing of the move which would leave Cagliari without one of their finest players.
The 21-year-old has been linked to a number of clubs, including some of United’s Premier League rivals. Unai Emery’s Arsenal recently scouted Barella according to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.
Meanwhile, Barella recently admitted he was pleased to be linked to United and Arsenal, as well as Liverpool, who Calciomercato also claim are ‘serious’ and ‘active’ about a deal.
“I’m not the one who sorts out the transfers. It’s the agents, presidents and clubs who do that. I only think about Cagliari and to stay up in the league,” Barella said.
“We’ll see about the rest. The interest from big clubs is pleasing, and makes me proud. It means I’m doing the right things.”
It could well be a classic story of a United pursuit because of a tenuous link. However, it is notable that Barella is young at 21 and United have been reportedly considering pursuing younger targets in order to follow the success stories of Liverpool, AS Monaco and others.
