Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has predicted Jose Mourinho will return to the Spanish capital sooner or later.
The Portuguese boss has been linked with his former side after their new manager Julen Lopetegui is reportedly set to lose his job at any moment.
Real have underperformed so far this season in a similar manner to how Manchester United have and so the Spaniard’s position is already under threat.
Mourinho’s job at Old Trafford is also said to be at risk and he could be tempted with a return to the Spanish giant if Calderon’s prediction proves to be correct.
When confronted, the former Chelsea manager insisted he hopes to remain at United for the length of his contract and beyond.
According to the Statesman, Ramon said to ESPN: “If this president [Real Madrid’s Florentino Perez] is with the team for a few years, and I think he will be, Mourinho will be here. No doubt.
“It’s the only coach the president has respected. For better or worse and I think he will be here, if he leaves Manchester [United] of course, now he’s Manchester coach.
“But sooner or later, I think he will be here.”
Jose has hardly ever remained at a club beyond a three year period so it was rare to hear him admit he hopes his future with the Red Devils is a long term one.
However, he could be enticed with leaving if he feels he’s going to get sacked either way and the Madrid job is there for the taking.
If that ends up happening it could spark a merry-go-round of sorts with Zinedine Zidane also linked with the Manchester United position.
